Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893)

Another of the Composers whose music is played the most often in concerts and on recordings around the world is Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky. His music is joyful and beautifully crafted, and famous for its unforgettable melodies. Tchaikovsky wrote symphonies and chamber pieces that are performed worldwide, but he is perhaps best known for his ballet music. Though he only wrote a handful of ballets, three of them - Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, and The Nutcracker - are possibly the three most popular ballets ever written. Almost every ballet company in the world performs the Nutcracker every year for Christmas.
